Tengen Toppa Solvernia (天元突破ソルバーニア Tengen Toppa Sorubānia?, literally "Heaven-Piercing Solvernia") is Nia's Tengen Toppa Gunmen formed during the final battle with the Granzeboma in the second movie adaptation of the series, The Lights in the Sky are Stars. It is later lost when it is used with the other Tengen Toppa Gunmen to form Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Mecha[]

Tengen Toppa Solvernia has no smaller mech from which it draws its design, as Nia has never piloted anything on her own previous to it. Instead, its design is very similar to Gurren Lagann, but with feminine proportions and a blue-and-white colour scheme. Its eyes are yellow, with red cross-like pupils similar to its pilot. A mass of light blue Spiral Power, resembling Nia's hair, is emitted from the back of its head. It is the first of the Tengen Toppa mechs to appear after the Granzeboma destroys Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

In The Lights in the Sky are Stars[]

Tengen Toppa Solvernia prevents the Granzeboma from drilling through what later becomes Tengen Toppa Lagann, before launching its own attack. It manages to pierce the Granzeboma's chest, only to be attacked by drills emerging from the beast's mouth. The Tengen Toppa Solvernia loses an arm to the drills and is left immobilized, but Viral's own Tengen Toppa Gunmen-Tengen Toppa Enki Durga-saves it. It later joins the rest of Team Super Galaxy Dai-Gurren in focusing fire on the Granzeboma before it is used in conjunction with the other Tengen Toppa Gunmen to form Super Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann.

Attacks[]

Tengen Toppa Solvernia has a spiral-design staff with a flower on the end that becomes a drill. It is also extremely agile, able to evade all of Granzeboma's attacks until its drill-staff was stuck in the enemy's chest.

Trivia[]

  • There was a Solvernia design in a Gurren Lagann booklet by You Yoshinari, the main mecha designer for Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. It was to appear in the series and was going to be Nia's main mech, but the idea was removed.
  • Solvernia's name (and, by extension, Tengen Toppa Solvernia's) is derived from the Japanese phrase soba ni iru, meaning "by your side", reflecting on Nia's relationship with Simon.
